If you have reasonable doubts about the advice given by your company doctor, you can request a second opinion. Another company doctor, who does not work for the same occupational health and safety service, will then give you substantiated advice, and your own company doctor will decide on that basis whether to adjust his or her advice.

Pim Berkhout's career in occupational medicine began in 1991 with the Royal Netherlands Navy. Here, as a practicing occupational physician, he was responsible for managing the occupational health and safety service for civilian employees. An occupational health and safety service where he and his team were consulted on a wide range of issues: heavy industry, aviation, shipping, education, chemicals, civil servants, and the war industry. Here, they advised on matters such as physical workload, asbestos, but also on health prevention and complex administrative health policy issues.

Berkhout founded De Arbodienst in 2002. In 2016, De Arbodienst was the fifth largest occupational health and safety service in the Netherlands. After selling De Arbodienst in 2019, Berkhout began to focus entirely on resolving complex medical incapacity cases, often combined with a disrupted working relationship.
